You should definitely hold the main quest once you have done the bandit camp. The DLC open up and new side quests too. I think you will need about 18.5k to get a Tavern going (10.5 for the woodcutters, bridge, and traders, then 8k for the Tavern), at which point you'll be making ~200 groschen per day.
